MINNEAPOLIS – As part of the company’s 2013 Day of Caring, more than 500 Xcel Energy employees, family members, retirees and friends volunteered this past Saturday at more than a dozen nonprofit organizations in Minnesota.  In 2012, Xcel Energy employees volunteered more than 20,000 hours of their time to help individuals and organizations across the state.

These generous volunteers helped at The Raptor Center with important activities related to our education department.  Examples included cleaning our handling gloves (used for presenting our winged ambassadors to the public as well as training and feeding), and cleaning and painting the birds’ perches.   Maintenance of our education bird courtyard included removing old mosquito netting, and some pruning of the vegetative covering we use for shade.

“Xcel Energy’s employees are dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve, and our second annual Day of Caring provides us with a large-scale opportunity to help many organizations,” said Dave Sparby, president and CEO of  Northern States Power Co.-Minnesota, an Xcel Energy company.

“Xcel Energy employees have a great track record of giving back to their communities,” Sparby said. “Coming together like this for a day allows us to make an even more focused, positive impact on our communities.”

Day of Caring projects took place at nonprofit organizations throughout the Twin Cities area as well as in St. Cloud, Mankato and Red Wing.
