Farewell, Friend

It is with a very heavy heart that we write to tell you that longtime volunteer coordinator Vivian Neiger passed away Monday night. For those of you not monitoring her Caring Bridge site, this may come as a surprise – just last Wednesday, she was planning her next birding trip. Vivian fought cancer valiantly and always seemed to find a new reservoir of optimism. She brought us all along on the journey, finding energy and strength in her dear family and her amazing multitude of friends; joy and promise in the birds outside her window; and peace and solace in the healing comfort of the natural world.

She will be so deeply missed by all of us.

Spring Raptor Release

Wonderful weather and a fantastic turn out helped make the spring public Raptor Release a success this past Saturday! It was held at the Three Rivers Park District's Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington.

Here, TRC education volunteer Margaret Overland demonstrates how owls hear, with winged ambassador Samantha the great horned owl looking on.

Three rehabilitated hawks were released - two red-tailed hawks and one broad-winged hawk. Clinic Manager Lori Arent looks on, along with clinic/flight volunteers Michelle Cook, Terry Headley and Jo Martinson.

Three Rivers came up with a wonderful activity so the public could build nests for stuffed raptors!

TRC education staff Adam Barnett and Laura Freeman enjoyed the cutouts that Xcel Energy brought along!

The Raptor Center had a display that showed the steps in the process to admit and rehabilitate raptors.

The Raptor Center in the News

Dr. Ponder will be live on-air today at 1:30pm, on KFAI! She will promote our Raptor Release on Saturday (Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington, from 11am - 2pm).

We also had a nice story in the Star Tribune about an injured Northern Saw-whet owl.
