I very well may have seen him on the 17th-18th while crossing Big Piney Cr just upstream of the confluence of Graves Cr, right on the Pope/Johnson Co border. Based on the map, that looks like the exact vicinity. As I stepped out into the open along Big Piney, an enormous eagle took off from sitting on rocks in the center of the creek and flew west up the creek. The wingspan was stunning. Of all the times to not have my DSLR and 500mm lens with me... I'll keep an eye out for him during deer hunting season. I've actually seen eagles many times along this stretch of pools on Piney.
