Eagles and Other Cams

Probably some of our friends spent some time last year watching the Minnesota Bound eagle camera.  (You might also remember The Raptor Center was able to aid one of the chicks nicknamed Harmon.)  The Minnesota Bound camera is live again this year.  KARE11 recently featured it, and mentioned TRC.

There are quite a few cameras and sites/organizations that allow for viewing of wildlife.  The Raptor Resource Project has a collection of links from peregrines to eagles to turkey vultures, throughout the United States.  These are great opportunities to learn  more about the natural biology of species, including the challenges all raptors face.

Meadow the Northern Harrier Takes a Bath

Meadow is TRC's education northern harrier.  In this video you can hear the squeaking noise of a water bottle trigger being depressed to give her a mist bath. It is still too cold to have her take a bath outside but we can pretend we are having "April showers" indoors.  As you can see in the video Meadow is enjoying herself immensely! Here's to spring coming soon!

Meadow was found along the side of a county road near Ellsworth, MN. Her hatch year was 2008. When the clinic looked into her eyes they noticed lesions that are consistent with having West Nile Virus. This bird is blind in her left eye because of the virus.

We hope you come out to TRC to meet her soon!

Monday and Otus the Eastern screech-owl

We agree with what Otus the Eastern screech-owl is projecting in this photo;  it's Monday, it's snowing, and spring is supposed to be here in two days.

Do you have a caption suggestion for Otus' photo?

Raptors of Minnesota Programs Monday March 18

We are canceling our 11:00am Raptors of Minnesota program today due to weather.  The courtyard portion of the 1:00pm program will be dependent on weather/safety of the area.

Answer to today's post

This is a juvenile female northern harrier.

What Bird is This?

Can you guess what bird this is?  We will post the answer later today.

TRC and Owls article (s)

TRC met some new friends yesterday from the Associated Press.  They were kind enough to get the word out about some owl species Minnesota is seeing this winter season, as well as talk about the work TRC does.

We want to thank Miranda Taylor of the AHC for collecting links for these stories so you have one site to visit here.
