As you know, TRC has long been collecting data on bald eagle
clinic patients with lead poisoning. It's heartbreaking to watch these majestic
birds seize, convulse, and often go blind as a result from ingesting the
fragments of spent lead ammunition in deer gut piles.
We'd like to share a recent article from the MNDNR's
publication Minnesota Conservation Volunteer about how a simple choice like
copper ammunition instead of lead can make a difference.
We recently worked with the MNDNR to gather various
stakeholders (state wildlife conservation, press, ammunition producers,
sporting goods retailers and others) together for a grass-roots conversation about
how to advance understanding and knowledge sharing on this topic.
